• From Don:

The second Saturday in December will now and forever be the Judy Nevell Memorial Game and we will use it each year as a fundraiser for Pete Moore Hospice House, the facility that cared for Judy.

Here are the details of the first game on December 10.

  • Here’s Judy’s obituary, published in the Williston, North Dakota paper, the town where Judy grew up.

  • Don announced Judy’s passing yesterday:

“It is with the greatest amount of sadness that we pass long the news that Judy Nevell has passed away this morning. Our thoughts are with husband Bill and daughter Alyssa. More news to follow.”

He later added “I know we are all grieving Judy. Yes, we all knew this time was coming…but, wow…. Judy was a pretty special spirit. Just feels like sharing I guess. Damn..”

From Betsy Ovitt: “She put up a great fight. But that damn cancer eventually won. I am so sorry for losing her. She was such a good person and contributing member to our bridge club.”

Fom Joyce Spence: “I am so very sorry to hear of Judy’s passing.  She will be missed.”

From Toni Brown: “Arriving at bridge one day I see “Audrey Hepburn” with her back to me wearing a striped boat shirt, form-fitting white, white pants and swinging her shiny dark  brown, bobbed hair. “Audrey” turned and there was Judy smiling, totally exquisite exhibiting her great composure.  Judy 1  Cancer 0″

  • The Eugene-Springfield bridge community, District 20 and the bridge world at large have lost one of the true giants of the game with Jeff Taylor’s passing. Jeff died in his sleep on December 21st.

Right now, we are all in shock. Of course, we must all go forward but it is hard to imagine bridge in our area without Jeff.

We send our thoughts to Linda, whom we know to be struggling right now per her own health, and to his children Russ and Kathleen.

We will have more to say about Jeff at a later date. Right now the plans are for a Celebration of Life sometime in the Spring or Summer.

Here’s a little bit of Jeff’s history that we put together a while back.

  • Club members gathered with Leigh’s family after Saturday’s game to honor his life and reminisce about this sweet man we all loved.

Joining us at the club were Leigh’s daughter Kristen, her husband Mike, Leigh’s son Leigh Jr., cousin Ann, granddaughter Leah, and her husband Johnny.

The stories came thick and fast with much laughter and some tears too as we learned about his many interests as well as some of his quirks.

Thanks to the family for graciously allowing us to post video of the event as well as copies of some of the old photos they brought in.

We’ll all miss Leigh very much.
